What is the mission of Supergirls Code?
About Us
Supergirls Code is a organization founded by two high school girls, Sophie and Kailin, to teach young girls in elementary and middle school how to code through after-school clubs, library classes, and summer camps. Our goal is also to encourage these girls to pursue their interests in computer science at a young age, especially so they don’t lose interest by the time they reach middle and high school.
Our Aim
We aim at bringing coding workshops to young girls to encourage girls to pursue their interests in STEM. It's important for girls to learn how to code because girls often lose interest in STEM faster when they feel out of place. By teaching girls that they can thrive in a STEM environment, and showing them coding is interactive, creative, and fun, we can build up generations of girls supported by their peers and advisors.
0ur Impact
Not only do girls learn to code, but they gain important skills and confidence along the way through Supergirls Code. By learning that their ideas are important, they learn to clearly communicate ideas in the classroom and aren't afraid to speak up. Skills such as creativity and logic are also developed through the club's environment, which can be beneficial to the girls in all aspects of life. They also form friendships by collaborating with their peers, and are inspired by the high school girls who serve as both an adviser and a role model.
