What is the mission of Supergirls Code?
About Us
Our founders, Kailin and Sophie, established Supergirls Code based off of their own experiences as women in tech. After participating in Kode with Klossy together, absolutely falling in love with code, and then looking for similar opportunities, they discovered that there really weren't many for girls their age or younger. So, then came Supergirls Code, an organization founded to empower elementary school girls to learn to code by giving high school advisers across the country the necessary resources to host after-school clubs, summer camps, and library programs.
Our Aim
We aim at bringing coding workshops to elementary school girls to encourage girls to be interested in STEM and to pursue their passion in STEM and code. Girls often lose interest in STEM by the time they reach middle school and high school, many times because of the limited opportunities available for them. By teaching girls that they have a place in the STEM environment, and showing them coding is interactive, creative, and fun, we can build up generations of girls who are supported by their peers and advisers.
0ur Impact
Not only do girls learn to code, but they also gain important skills and confidence along the way through Supergirls Code. By learning that their ideas are important, they learn to clearly communicate ideas in the classroom and aren't afraid to speak up. Skills such as creativity and logic are also developed through the club's environment, which can be beneficial to the girls in all aspects of life. They also form friendships by collaborating with their peers, and are inspired by the high school girls who serve as both an adviser and a role model.
